NCMEA Honor Administrators should be exceptionally skillful in their respective unit and should be especially aware of the cultural arts (particularly music) as an indispensable part of the school curriculum as indicated by their personal attitude and philosophy; results in terms of understanding programs; number of teachers in music and other cultural arts; number of children involved in music and other cultural arts; opportunities for teacher growth; financial support for the arts; evidence of community and school board support; and understanding of the music programs special needs in terms of space, program and equipment.

The Honor Administrator nomination shall consist of:

  • Statement of nomination to include reasons and evidence for this honor as indicated in the criteria.
  • Biographical sketch describing the administrator’s experience, education, number of years in present position, educational institution(s) attended, degrees earned, professional organizations, civic clubs, honors, etc.
  • Comprehensive statistical data of music activities (number of teachers and students involved)
  • The Nomination Form must be submitted online by 11:59pm June 15, 2024.


The Selection Committee consists of the Awards Chair and three NCMEA members, appointed by the NCMEA President.

Final decisions will be announced by the NCMEA Executive Director to the recipient and to the nominating member, following the Summer NCMEA Board Meeting. All applicants will be informed of the outcome.

The recipient will be invited by the Awards Chair to be a guest at the NCMEA Professional Development Conference in November for formal presentation of the award. The Awards Chair will make this presentation.

The Awards Chair shall encourage the nominating member to publicize the Honor Administrator Award in local newspapers and other media. The nominating member should provide copies of articles to the NCMEA Awards Chair.

The Pat Hall Music Educator Advocate Award recognizes a person who has demonstrated exceptional visible support and advocacy for music and the arts in North Carolina. The award will be made to a person who has exemplified the following criteria:

  • Personal attitude, actions and philosophy
  • Visible success in improving the general status of the arts in North Carolina
  • Leadership in the arts
  • Effective advocacy for music education and the other arts


Nomination Deadline is 11:59pm on June 15, 2024.

NCMEA Hall of Fame Award honors those NCMEA members who have made an extraordinary contribution to our organization. The qualifications for this honor include being a member of NCMEA/NAfME for at least 30 years, having a record of excellence in teaching and/or administration, having a record of betterment to the profession, and of professional ideals and academic integrity.

Criteria include:

  • Member of NCMEA/NAfME (if retired, nominee must have been a member while teaching for a minimum of 30 years)
  • Excellence in teaching and/or administration.
  • Contributions and improvements made in music education.
  • Betterment of the profession thorough exemplary service.
  • Professional offices, publications, awards, recognition’s, and/or performances.
  • Professional ideals and academic integrity.
  • Provide at least three letters of commendation from a combination of the following: students, administrators, colleagues, community, state or national leaders.

Nomination deadline: 11:59pm on June 15, 2024.

NCMEA Conference Performance Policies and Procedures

1. Purpose
  - To acknowledge excellent high school choral programs through performance at the annual NCMEA Conference.

2. Criteria
  - Director must be a current member of NCMEA/NAfME at the time of application and performance.
  - Director must have completed three full school years in their current position by June of the year they are applying.
  - Three performance recordings of the group applying must be submitted with the application. Each recording should be one piece of music performed by the applying group and represent one of the previous four school years (three different years.)
  - Selected choirs will perform a maximum twenty-five-minute program at the annual NCMEA Conference.
 

3. Procedure
  - Application deadline for 2024 Applications is midnight on May 13. All application materials, including recordings and documents are due at this time.
  - Recording submissions will be judged by a blind panel of high school and collegiate choral educators.
  - Teachers will be notified by June 3 of application results.
